Our animal ambassador for January is Leo! Leo is a Bengal Cat who was rescued from the Los Angeles area; left abandoned by his owner with other Bengal Cats. A non-profit rescue that works with Zovargo went in and saved all the animals. Leo joined our team back in September of 2015 and after taking several months to settle in, he began coming out to programs with us!
Today, Leo loves going out on programs as he has a very important role in being a representative for his wild cat cousins. He helps to teach about how important it is to reuses paper products to help save his cousins home in the forests! He is also an important part of our education programs because we make sure to highlight how important it is to be a responsible pet owner and understand what a family might be getting into if they decide to add a Bengal Cat to their family.
Leo thrives in the enrichment of going new places and meeting new people, too! Every program is a new adventure for Leo and he always gets excited when he sees his travel crate and willing steps into it - ready to go meet new people!
Bengal Cats have a lot of energy and love to be outside. They are natural explorers and enjoy being active. These are not the type of cat most people would prefer to have in their home. They are mischievous and are quite cunning animals that crave attention and get into things they probably shouldn't. Rest assured, you will never be bored if you have a Bengal Cat. If you own a Bengal Cat and aren’t home to keep them occupied all the time, toys that resemble dragonflies or other outside critters are recommended to keep them from getting into trouble. Another cat is also a great playmate! Since Bengal Cats love to explore and run around, some people recommend having cat trees or maybe even some shelves specifically so your Bengal can climb around inside.
At Zovargo, Leo goes on daily walks with is harness and leash. It can be quite funny to see #1 - a cat on a leash and #2 - a wild-looking cat on a leash! It's important to us that we keep Leo active and engaged by going on these daily walks to relieve some of his energy.
Something most people don’t know is that Bengal Cat’s are super jumpers! Leo can jump up to 7 feet with no running start!
